KOZHIKODE: A fifth standard student of a city school died after an electric post fell on him on the school compound, on Saturday morning. The accident occurred at Mathara Islamic Residential Higher Secondary School when a school bus hit an electric post when the driver was moving the vehicle in the reverse direction.

Aadhish (10) – son of Shaji and Dhanya from Iringallur, who had suffered head injury after a tree fell on him – could not be saved even though the school authorities immediately shifted the boy to Kozhikode Medical College Hospital, the police said.

Aadhish’s elder brother Aswin is a student of the same school. The accident occurred around 9.20am when the children were lining up for the assembly.

Local residents and parents staged protest in front of the school even as the city police registered a case against the driver of the school bus. The police charged the driver with rash and negligent driving and with causing death by negligence.
